Treasures of Old (2014)

All hands on deck boys we've spotted the prize
The wind's at our back, we have the surprise
So run out the guns boys and keep her in sight
We can't run away there'll be plunder tonight

Take up position and push up the speed
Soon there'll be nowhere to hide
Pack in the powder and sharpen your steel
As we come along broadside

Load the cannons for the attack
Trim the sails mates, no turning back
Take what you can boys give nothing back
Hoist the colors and raise the black

Fire at will boys and pour it on strong
Those Spanish bastards will not last long
Make their ship bleed boys we're staking our claim
And those we let live will carry our name

Put all the prisoners way down in the hold
Tie them together and group them ten fold
Let them all ponder upon their defeat
As we gain a ship that we'll add to our fleet

One day I met a man as tall as he was strong
He told me tales of woe, of loss and tragic awe
He bid me sit and hear his story sad to tell
A story sad as any heard and dread as any hell

He said, “Young man come and listen to my words and I’ll sing ‘em just for you.”
“With the melody soarin’ like an angelic chorus and a finish dark as any brew.”
“Drink it down, drink it long, come and listen to my song. Let the words guard your heart ere you follow me along.”
“There’s a girl that I love, now she’s with the Lord above, and I’m gonna try to see here soon.”
Spittin’ on the devil’s tomb

The man then stood and swore, his oath a banshee’s cry
His hands did shake, his mouth did foam, with fire in his eyes
His rant became a roar, his feet near danced a jig
He roamed around the pub that night, and this is what he said

He said, “I am a man who with these two bloody hands has killed more than just a few.”
“I’ve killed peasants and a king and the boson’s felt my sting, and you’ll keep your wits up lest
you feel it, too.”
“But wasn’t born a villain I once had a loving woman, but no gold to buy her hand.”
“After seven years at sea with the fortune of a king, now my darlin’ I’ll be coming home to you.”

But I shot a law man down in Harbor View
I left a trail of blood, and bid that port adieu
Spittin’ on the devil’s tomb

A band of wanted men with murder in our souls
Marauders of the Spanish Main, with hearts as black as coal
They’d catch us any day, the law was coming soon
“We’ve paid our debts in bloody coin, and dance beneath the moon”
Spittin’ on the devil’s tomb

If the Jordan ran with whiskey I’d be baptized every day
I’d will myself to grow some gills and I would swim away
The preacher says I’m bound for hell, but my prayers keep him at bay
Oh Irish Whiskey hold me close no matter where I stray

Well I once had a lady, lady name of May
Hey yah, sing my song Hey yah, all the day long
She walked the straight and narrow, no never did she stray
Hey yah, all the day long Irish Whiskey Love Song

Well I’ve never seen a sight as sweet as this
A double shot of peace of mind’s, my lover and my friend
And I may never see St Peter and his pearly gates
Oh father give me peace. Heaven’s just a double shot away

She took me to a house of prayer to get me on my knees
I asked that priest to pour a drink, a double if you please

I pulled into the habor a week and three days hence
I met that dock so fleet a’foot you’d ne’er see where I went
I’ll live I ain’t seen that ship with heart as black as flint
And when I board her once again my money’ll all be spent

Another day in paradise out on the open sea
The sails are full we're flowing with the tide
The hold is stocked the keg is tapped now to the dock our course is mapped
With navigator Jameson as our guide

So here's to you, all you bastards
Here's to me, I'll drink it down
Here's to us, raise your glasses
To a night we can't remember and the girls we can't forget
We're on shore leave

For just a few more hours we'll be feeling all the spray
As sunset slowly fades into the blue
The grog will flow, the music play, and we'll be spending all our pay
So strike the bell we're coming back to you

Finally off this bloody ship to unwind
Just a few more days we'll leave this all behind

Batten down, me hardies! Get ready for the storm!
There’ll be time enough for grievin’, they’ll be time enough to mourn
Should fate allow us passage we’ll be all reborn
So batten down, me hardies for a trip around the horn

Don’t worry ‘bout the bloodstains, they’ll come out in the wash
Now put some pep into that step and buckle-up that swash
Don’t fret about the stabbin’ we all know chicks dig scars
You’re livin’ your own legend now, creating your memoirs

Raise your tankards high
Salute the black and white

Make sure you wear your smile as you stab him in the gullet
If you miss him, never fear! You’ve got your lucky bullet
We’re jaunting into battle with a bouncing, perky tune
We’re a fearsome group of pirates on this sunny afternoon

Prepare yourself for snickersnee and sharpen up your swords
Let’s practice our most fearsome pose for staring down the hordes
Ignore the collywobbles, boys. You know, I’m sure it’s fine
They’ll sing our tarradiddles from here to Lichtenstein!

Now, get up off your ass
Load the cannon, raise the mast
And fire at will into the old broadside

I know what it is to live at sea
I’ve seen far more than a man should see
I’ve known love and hate in equal part
I’ve been to the end before you start

I’ve come with a crew of me who need a little rest
And if I seem a little raw then I mean no offence
A little company and mead, and we’ll all make amends
Now, let’s all take a drink ‘til we can’t stand

Hey! Hey you! Pour another round
Hey! Hey you! Pass that mug on down
Hey! Hey you! Give this drunk a hand
Bottoms up! Full speed ahead! As we sail across this land.

I think she’s starin’ ‘cross the pub at me
I’m thinkin’ it’s time to start this spree
I think if she’s a lock, then I’m the key
I’m thinkin’ of somethin’ we can agree

Now this may take a little time, so pour another round
And keep that music loud so we can cover up the sound
I’ve been at sea for quite some time, I’m a little tightly wound
The brothel ain’t the last thing going down!

Pour a round!
Pour a round!
Pour a round and pass it down!
Pour another round!

Dublin Crow, Dublin crow
Tell me everything you know
Show me all the life I've seen through your eyes
Take my soul, take my soul
Higher than you've every flown
Drop me right into the water from the sky
When I submerge up from the ocean covered in that muddy kelp
If I'm drowning please don't save me
'Cause I got to save myself
Fly back home to tell the others
That I always needed help until today yea
And I'll finally find my way

English crow, English crow
Does the sunlight ever show?
There's been rain for 40 days inside my heart
Bitter cold, bitter cold
I just want the world to know
That I lost the finish line right from the start
Can you sing off my hangover?
Can you break away this crust?
For I am the weakest scarecrow in a field that's made of dust
For I promise if you help me to my feet
To board the bus I'll leave today yea
And I'll finally find my way

Scottish crow, Scottish crow
Does this tattoo really show
That my bloodline has been your line all along?
And just when you think you know yourself
That's when you will outgrow.
And you'll settle in that tree where you belong.
Did I ever really know, God?
Was it just a lie or truth?
Was I raised to think
That I would never ever lose my youth?
Well I thought that guns were made
For killing pretty things like you
I've got to say yea
That I've finally found my way.

When I was just a lad, looking for someone to wed
To share my hopes, my dreams, and to share my bed
My Father told me son, now there's a secret I must tell to you
A recipe for a good life, that always has rung true

You see now there's a mushroom, that grows in the dark parts of the wood
It will bring you happiness, like you never thought it could
It has a certain potency, and I'll tell you what you do
Serve your beloved a bowl ,of this mushroom stew

Mushroom Stew, mushroom stew
Eat your bowl of mushroom stew
Make the blasted yelling stop!
Eat your mushroom stew

Take my first wife for example, who died on accident of course
Shell fell into that noose, after she left that running horse
But rotten was the wood, upon the tree she flew
So to nurse her aching wounds, I fed her mushroom stew

Mushroom Stew, mushroom stew
Eat your bowl of mushroom stew
Make that freaking nagging stop!
Eat your mushroom stew

I'll tell you about my second wife, Whom for to this day I grieve
Who got some advice from her three sisters, Famine, Pestilence, and Greed
They said that she should take it all, and leave me penniless and blue
So I served the four of them, a big bowl of mushroom stew

Mushroom stew, mushroom stew
Eat your bowl of mushroom stew
Make sure your sisters eat their bowls too!
Eat your mushroom stew

My third wife she was one, who was beautiful and chaste
Everyone was glad to see her ,when we went most anyplace
One day I came to find out, what being chaste meant to be
It meant that bloody whore, slept with everyone but me!

So on the ship we went, out for a little trip
Around her feet the anchor rope, off the boat is where she flew
I know that it's sounds horrible, but it's what I had to do
Because the slutty little tart, wouldn't eat her mushroom stew

Mushroom stew, mushroom stew
Eat your bowl of mushroom stew
You'll sleep with Davy Jones, that's exactly what you'll do
Now your sleeping with the fishes, eat your mushroom stew

Now ladies don't you think, that I'm excluding you
Does your loved one do you wrong, no matter what you do
Don't go out and seek revenge, like your prone to do
Just serve them up a hefty bowl, of this mushroom stew

Mushroom stew, mushroom stew
Eat your bowl of mushroom stew
That will do pig, that will do!
Eat your mushroom stew

Alone in the shadow I sit in my cell
Praying redemption may keep me from hell
The darkness is my only friend as I wait for the toll of the bell
An innocent man in a criminal lot
I was taken for service when my vessel was caught
Trade of surgeon, it seemed only doom had I brought
My hand were made to heal, but now that's gone

I used to dream that I would see every land
I used to dream I'd be a fortunate man, but it's gone.

I stood in front of council and the English magistrate
There'd be no forgiveness as I plead my case
I feel myself breaking, as the tear drops stream down my face
Things should be different this isn't even fair
I've never harmed another soul but no one cares
A prisoner on the galley, sentenced to die in disgrace
So different from my visions and now it's gone

At daylight I'll hang for the wrongs that I'm blamed
No tears fall for me my life ends in shame
The only blood that stains may hands is only from the mending of the crew
Oh and now, there's nothing I can do

Oh give me a sailin girl to bounce upon the waves
Make her love her sailors and the salt spray on her face
Let her stand upon my bow with sunshine on her face
I'll tie her down with rigging and i'll dress her up with lace

Oh give me a royal girl to sit upon her throne
Her highness is much lower any time we are alone
A girl to smile up at me when I take her crown
And courtly rumors that come up about what's going down

We’ve been asked to leave some of the finest ports at sea
And we may not make it back this way again
Now all we need’s to spend a night and buck or two with Mrs. Right
Or Miss Right-Damn- Now if she’ll have a spin
Oh darlin’ won’t you please Take pity now on me
And fall in love for just this evening

‘cause a buck or two is all I’ve got to spend

We've been so long at sea surrounded by these men
Now any port that fits our sloop looks mighty fine again

Oh give me a country girl all Rollin in the hay
Her pigtails bouncing in the air and begging me to stay
The lass pretends she's innocent but oh, the things she knows
A girl who stays quite loyal even when I come and go

You take those scarlet pillows and you throw them on the bed
And you roll around on top of them until they're playing dead
You tie up all the madame's girls and make them beg for more
You sing to all the ladies and you scream at all the whores

Oh give me a drunken girl, she might forget my name
Oh give me a city girl that knows the deepest lanes
Oh give me a proper girl she'll be so glad she came
Oh give me a pirate girl to sail the bounding main

There's a legend that I heard before, a story I've been told
Where senoritas bring more joy than a pyramid of gold
A town untouched by pirate hands, where rum it flows like honey
Where men are all just dandies and the chest are full of money

So load up the cannon boys and drink up all the booze
We'll light up the sky tonight, we're off the Veracruz

We've plundered Margarita, Maracaibo and St. Kitts
but Cruz girls they are rumored to have the greatest... bits
So tonight we're headed westward, seeking out our legends pleasure
We'll attack them and we'll sack them just to find our greatest treasure

We pulled into the docks one night, all ready for the seige
But the cruz girls they were waiting with open arms and pleas
Fiestas and siestas and tequila and tortillas
And beautiful young ladies with invites to their villas

i was born I was born with the ocean in my soul
With salt and brine in marrow and a heart as dark as coal
I was born I was born with black powder in my veins
I was made to be a sailin man I'm hooked with ball and chains

I'm not my brothers keeper no I'm not a gentleman
I've never cried for mercy and I've always made my stand
I don't know what retreat means cause I'm always first attacking
My destiny was piracy... Raised on the milk of the Kraken

I was born I was born with nobody there to teach
I had to learn the ropes myself on every new found beach
I was born I was born with a first that's clinching fire
with a mind the seeks adventure and thirsting for desire

I was born I was born with an eye for gems and gold
With a tongue to woo the women and a mouth that's rather bold
I was born I was born, liquid courage calls to me
I fear no man or monster from the land or from the sea

Oh, the Southern Queen has lost her crown
Way, hey, we all go down
Her color gone, she fades to brown
Down to the depths of the ocean
On, the Northern Queen has played her hand
Now closed the gates to greener lands

Way, hey, we sink away
Down where the color starts to fade
To the darkness sink away
Down to the depths of the ocean

Oh, the Midland King’s gone mad, they say
He shuns his lands and sings with fey
So, sail away, no port for me
I’d rather live and die at sea

Oh the court’s gone west to conquer lands
The king is far too drunk to stand
Eastern lands I’ve never seen
Into the sun away we flee

There are villains on the ocean, the type that make the citizens tremble with fear
There are dastardly diabolical bad guys with insane maniacal laughs and the jerks that already drank up all the beer
There are fiends out on the water, covered in scars and scary and looking quite mean
With patches and hooks and general bad looks and an unpleasant odor indeed
And sometimes the things they say are quite obscene

But we, we chose to be different, yes we, we serve a new role
So we're pirating pirates and looting the treasure, the grog and the loot and the gold
And taking everything back those ruffians stole

We're the heroes of the high seas, we live a life of action, there are never guarantees
We're the heroes of the high seas, dishing out truth and justice from port royal to the seas

Of course there is honor among the thieves, but in her and honor gets sometimes confusing while drunk
We drown in our folly and thwart melancholy while giving a golden smile
While telling stories of all the frigates we've sunk

WE're vigilantes singing shanties, in nearly perfect five part harmony
The wine, the women, the music and song keep us going long and strong
Until we realize we're out of loot again

Our only super power is that we don't drown right away
Saxton probably can't breath under water... but we'll find out someday

We're privateers without any fears, except for running out of the mead and the rum
We're plundering plunderers, avoiding the blunders and bringing the thunder indeed
While striking dashing poses one by one

She looks at me with hazel eyes, her flaming hair seems to come alive
When she laughs that woman cuts me to the core
Her skin is lovely porcelain, she can slam those guinness one by one
And follow up with a shot of Tullamore

I can't think straight, she won't let me concentrate, I cannot wait...

She's the crowning jewel of the Emerald Isle
She can melt your heart with just a smile, the cutest little accent I've ever heard
She got a shamrock bow tied in her hair, does what she wants and she don't care
She can take me on a trip around the world... My Irish Girl

She loves to drink, loves to fight, she's passionate and can dance all night
At the end of the rainbow she's my pot of gold
Got stories that she likes to tell, bout Belfast, Dublin, and Kinsale
Her body's young but her spirit's kinda old

The Devil went down to Georgia,
He was looking for a soul to steal
He was in a bind, 'cause he was way behind,
He was willing to make a deal
When he came across this young man
Sawing on a fiddle and playing it hot
And the Devil jumped up on a hickory stump and said,
"Boy let me tell you what:
I guess you didn´t know it, but I'm a fiddle player too,
And if you'd care to take a dare,
I'll make a bet with you
Now you play a pretty good fiddle,
Boy, but give the Devil his due
I bet a fiddle of gold against your soul
'Cause I think I'm better than you"

The boy said, "My name's Saxton and it might be a sin,
But I'll take your bet, you're gonna regret,
'Cause I'm the best there's ever been"

Saxton, rosin up your bow and play your fiddle hard,
'Cause hell's broke loose in Georgia and the Devil deals the cards
And if you win you'll get this shiny fiddle made of gold,
But if you lose, the Devil gets your soul!

The Devil opened up his case and he said, "I'll start this show"
And fire blew from his fingertips as he rosined up his bow
And he pulled the bow across the strings and it made an evil hiss
Then a band of demons joined in,
And it sounded something like this

When the Devil finished, Saxton said,
"Well you're pretty good old son
But sit down in that chair right there
And let me show you how it's done!"

Fire on the Mountain, run, boys, run
The Devil´s in the house of the rising sun
Chicken in the bread pan a picking out dough,
Granny does your dog bite, "No, child, no"

The Devil bowed his head because he knew that he'd been beat
And he laid that golden fiddle on the ground at Saxton´s feet
Saxton said, "Devil, just come on back
If you ever want to try again,
I done told you once, you son of a bitch,
I'm the best there´s ever been"

He played,
Fire on the Mountain, run, boys, run
The Devil's in the house of the rising sun
Chicken in the breadpan a picking out dough,
Granny will your dog bite, "No, child, no"

The rolling ocean, the crashing waves
The endless water shall be your grave
But from the destiny you can't be saved
You'll die a coward, or you'll die brave

The song of battle, the howls of pain
The roll of thunder cry out again
You'll hear us coming across the Main
Because the ocean is our domain

The clash of steel rings throughout you head
The smell of powder, the taste of lead
Screams of the fallen, the sense of dread
The slowly dying lie among the dead

So say your prayers mate, while you have time
Before your soul lies beneath the brine
There is no hope here, your life is mine
Five fathoms down will be your shrine

I’ve sailed on this sea longer than I recall
And enjoyed more than most men can say
I’ve danced with the dutchess and dined with the king
And’ve been welcome in most any bay
And every last sunset I’ve taken as mine
Whether red sky or blue I’ve sailed free
And day after long day I’ve given my best
And the best you’ve all given to me

But my hands now grown tired of harness at sea. To lay down my mantle with pride.
To take up my wife and the softness she keeps. To lay down my head by her side.

Ive had tears of pain, and I’ve had tears of joy
Ive seen tears from a young child's eyes
But it’s nothing to the tears of goodbye

I’ve sang out my plea and brought the crew to my home
I’ve drained countless bottles of meade
And I’ve banged many mugs and sailed on the foam

From Australia to Old Maui
With Pillows and Madams and Beggars alike

To Lasses and Revelers, I sang
From lands in the north with the chill of the lake
And warmth in the southern most ways

But my crew grows restless to sail many miles. A journey I no longer crave
I bid ye farewell until we meet again. May the sorrow of parting be saved!

Ive had tears of pain, boy and tears of joy
I've seen tears from a young child's eyes
But nothing compares to the pain that I feel
From the tears of a last goodbye

I wish I was the cabin boy aboard a man-o- war
Sam's gone away, on board a man-o- war.
Sam's gone away, on board a man-o- war.
I wish I was a bosun on board a man-o- war,
Sam's gone away, on board a man-o- war.
Sam's gone away, on board a man-o- war.

Pretty work, brave boys, pretty work, I say.
Sam's gone away, on board a man-o- war.
Pretty work, brave boys, pretty work, I say.
Sam's gone away, on board a man-o- war.
Sam's gone away, on board a man-o- war.

I wish I was the gunner on board a man-o- war,
I wish I was the chief mate on board a man-o- war,

I wish I was the captain on board a man-o- war,
I wish I was the purser on board a man-o- war,

I'm glad I'm not the ship's rat on board a man-o- war,
I guess that's all the people on board a man-o- war,
